---------------------------------------------------------------- New version is twice as fast and easier to use
Mountain View, CA (July 23,1990) - Adobe Systems Incorporated announced today a new version of Adobe Type Manager (ATM) software for the Macintosh computer. The upgrade, Version 2.0, is more than twice as fast as the previous version, is easier to use, and provides higher-quality type. The new version will be demonstrated in Adobe's booth at the MacWorld Exposition in Boston, August 8-11.
"Our Adobe Type Manager customers have asked us to stick to the basics- performance, ease of use and quality," said Ivar Michelsons, product marketing manager, Adobe Systems. "With this new version, we continue to address these fundamentals. ATM 2.0 is not only faster than ever, it is also easier to use."
Preliminary lab tests show the new version to be twice as fast --both on the screen and printing -- as ATM Version 1.2 on a Macintosh Plus or SE. And, customers using one of the Macintosh II family of computers may see up to 2.5 times the performance of the current ATM software.
In addition, Adobe has improved ease of use by including a new utility, Font Porter. With Font Porter, ATM software users can now install bitmapped fonts by simply dragging the suitcase files into the Systems Folder, eliminating difficulties and confusion related to installing bitmapped fonts through the Font/DA Mover. With ATM 2.0, customers will also notice type quality improvements on their screen.
All registered ATM customers can upgrade to Version 2.0 for $20 (plus $7.50 for shipping and handling). Or,for an additional $39 customers can receive the upgrade and any typeface package from the AdobeType Library of font Software. The product will be available August 8,1990. Customers interested in upgrading should call 1-800-64-ADOBE in the U.S. or 1-800-648-2846 in Canada.
ATM software supports all the most popular Macintosh software programs with no modifications. The product requires a Macintosh Plus, SE, SE/30, IIx, IIcx, IIci or Portable with one megabyte of RAM and supports Systems 6.0.2 or later. In addition to any PostScript language printer, the product also supports the ImageWriter family, LaserWriter IISC, the Hewlett-Packard DeskWriter or PaintJet, the Kodak Diconix M150 Plus and most other QuickDraw devices.
